LaBrae High site not a danger, sample shows

WARREN -- Core samples taken from the site of the former LaBrae High School on West Market Street have come back as satisfactory, but the Trumbull County Health Department has ordered the school system to provide additional information.
Dr. James Enyeart, Trumbull County Health commissioner, said the health department has written the school system a letter asking for additional documentation detailing the manner in which demolition debris was crushed and buried at the site.
The school system had the former school building razed this spring. The contractor ground up most of the debris from the demolition and buried it at the site, which triggered a citation from the health department. The health department said the school did not properly notify authorities before burying the material.
Core samples the school provided showed that a proper barrier exists between the debris and the environment, Dr. Enyeart said. The school system is expected to provide the additional information in a couple of weeks, he added.
