Cafe Azur opens
BOARDMAN -- The new Cafe Azur, now open inside Shelton-Mathews Chocolates, 4150 Market St., features several specialties created by a trio of chefs.
Since it opened, the candymaker has featured, besides its exclusive line of fine European-style hand-dipped chocolates, its own line of handmade pastries, now prepared by chef Michael Landgraff.
Lunch, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, is vegetarian-style, with French/Vietnamese influence, and is created and served by chef Ely Pugh, former owner of Lock 24 Restaurant.
The cafe's new executive chef, Nunzio Scordo, returns from southern Florida where he was chef at the nationally renowned 32 East in Delray Beach, and most recently at the Highlands Bar and Grill in Birmingham, Ala., a James Beard Award winner.
Dinner is served Wednesday through Saturday evenings beginning at 5:30 p.m. Reservations are encouraged, as there is a limited seating capacity.
Summerfest 2006
WARREN -- Trumbull Art Gallery, 196-198 E. Market St., will sponsor Summerfest 2006 from June 22-July 8. The activities will be inspired by Leonardo da Vinci as students will create machines, notebooks, drawings, costumes and banners.
There will be workshops geared to 4- to 7-year-olds, 7- to 11-year-olds and 11- to 16-year-olds.
An opening party is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. June 22 and the event will culminate with a parade at 12:30 p.m. July 8 around Courthouse Square. For information on specific classes and registration, call (330) 395-4876.
Valedictorian salute
YOUNGSTOWN -- Fox 17/62 will present Academic Excellence, a salute to local valedictorians, which will air randomly on Fox 17/62 seven days a week and rotate evenly during the First News at Ten on Fox 17/62. Glass show scheduled
TIFFIN -- Tiffin Glass Collectors will host the 21st annual glass show and sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 24 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25 at Seneca County School of Opportunity, 780 E. County Road 20, Tiffin. Tiffin also is the home of the Tiffin Glass Museum, where more than 1,000 pieces of glassware and memorabilia are featured.
Thank-you reception set
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Connection will hold a thank-you reception from 4 to 6 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, Wick Avenue at Wood Street. Under the direction of Dr. Carol Baird, the group completed a 12-day tour of China. The reception will recognize the people and organizations that made the trip possible.
