Some will get reward for wearing seat belt

The next time a police officer pulls you over, you might be thrilled with the ticket he gives you.
Sgt. Vince D'Egidio of New Middletown's Police Department said the Mahoning Safe Communities and Operating a Vehicle Impaired Task Force are promoting seat-belt use by giving some traffic violators tickets to athletic events.
D'Egidio, who is spokesman for the OVI group, said police officers in Mahoning and Trumbull counties will be issuing red tickets all summer to motorists who are pulled over for minor traffic offenses and found to be wearing their seat belts.
He explained that motorists who commit offenses that would merit only a traffic warning, instead of a citation, will get the sports tickets. For example, he said someone going only 4 or 5 mph over the speed limit or who has a light out would be eligible.
The red ticket would be good for two admissions to a Mahoning Valley Scrappers or a Youngstown State University football game.
D'Egidio said the program is part of the "Click it or Ticket" campaign, a national effort to encourage seat-belt use.
