Regardless of name, Judge Cronin orders man held on $75,000 bond
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man who court records show has no known address also disputed his name when he appeared before Judge Maureen A. Cronin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Presiding over arraignments Tuesday, Judge Cronin ordered Ricky Bryant, 44, held in the county jail on $75,000 bond on charges of aggravated robbery and being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
Court records show Bryant is also known as Ricky Findley, and there are court cases listed under both names. Bryant told Judge Cronin he is Ricky Findley. She said she was going to stick with the records she had before her that said Ricky Bryant.
After Bryant's arraignment, deputies in the courtroom told Judge Cronin they were familiar with Bryant, and know him as Ricky Bryant. One deputy said he has known Bryant since the man was in junior high, and has known him all that time as Ricky Bryant.
Judge Cronin then had Bryant brought back to her bench.
"Did you come in here and lie to me in my courtroom?" Judge Cronin asked.
"No, ma'am," Bryant said. "You asked who I was and I told you."
Deputies later explained the name confusion is that Bryant and Findley are both names in Bryant's family. He was reared by a grandmother, and has used both names, deputies said.
