Denbow's 1-hitter helps lead Newell
Dave DeJacimo hit a bases-loaded triple to cap a six-run inning for the Astros.
STRUTHERS -- Kent Denbow threw a one-hitter as Newell Sporting Goods won its second straight game, defeating Youngstown Express 5-3 in a Class B game Tuesday at Cene Park.
Josh Dankovich got the only hit for Express (3-10), a single with two out in the bottom of the sixth. Denbow struck out eight and walked six for Newell (4-9), while Jarryd Summers had three hits and four RBIs. Josh Fyffe and Dan Keil added two hits.
Jeff Olenych struck out five in three scoreless innings of relief for the Express.
Livi Steel 4, Roth Brothers 2
Jordan Tanner (2-0) went five-plus innings to get the win and Calvin Clayton struck out three in two innings of relief to get the save for Livi (9-4). Eric Holtzman got the loss despite allowing just one earned run for Roth (0-2), which had five errors. Joe Vaught added two hits.
Astro Falcons 8, Dave Sugar Excavating 3
Dave DeJacimo hit a bases-loaded triple to cap a six-run third for the Falcons (10-3). DeJacimo also singled while Matt Pirko (1-0) went five-plus innings, striking out five and allowing just one earned run, to get the win. Kolten Hoffman added two hits. Jeff Musick had three hits while Eric Pirtz had two for Dave Sugar (5-8).
Mink Financial 9, Wharmby Sports 2
Frank Larubbio doubled and added two singles, while Lonnie McQueen had a triple and a single for Mink (6-7), which compiled 13 hits. Mark Novotny two hits and three RBIs. Brett Grabman and Nick Durkin each had a single and a double. Sam Barker (1-1) went the distance to get the win. Tom Popadak, Garen Ream, and John Pitzulo had two hits each for Wharmby (8-5).
Late MondayLivi Steel 14, Dave Sugar Excavating 4
Josh Swipas, Zach Byler and Willie Sekula had three hits each for Livi, while Chester Kirkwood and Tony Pozeaga added two each. Derek Sumner had 11 strikeouts in the complete game win.
Newell Sporting Goods 4, Mink Financial 3
Jarryd Summers struck out 15 over the first nine innings to get the win for Newell, which scored two unearned runs in the top of the 10th. Andy Geibel pitched the 10th for the save. Dan Keil and Karl Swanson had two hits for Newell. Lonnie McQueen went the first six innings for Mink and allowed no earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. Dan Moran had two hits in the loss.
