SALEM Finance committee

City council's finance committee also met Monday and handled these matters:
Agreed to recommend the city come up with $2,500 for music for the Bicentennial. Jack Yarnell, who has coordinated music concerts in city parts for years, said he was left short when a financial backer decided not to participate. The city once provided funds for summer concerts but has not done so recently because of a tight budget. Councilman Greg Oesch, finance committee chairman, said the city is contributing toward the Bicentennial with a large amount of overtime for police.
Agreed to recommend a 2.5 percent raise for about 22 nonunion workers for this year and 2007. The move would cost about $22,100 a year.
