Louisiana parish honors group from Austintown for assistance

The group wants to build two more homes in July.
AUSTINTOWN -- A group that offers humanitarian aid to communities and people in crises has been thanked with a proclamation for its work helping hurricane victims in Louisiana.
The Jefferson Parish, La., council presented the proclamation to Mission of Love, run by Kathleen Price of Austintown, while the group was there for a week last month to build a house for a couple named Kirk and Kris Fisher. The Fishers, of a town not far from New Orleans called Jean Lafitte, lost their mobile home during Hurricane Rita.
May's trip was the group's fourth to Jean Lafitte since the Hurricanes last summer. Mayor Tim Kerner also presented the group with the key to the town.
Going back
Price said the group plans to go again July 14 to build two more homes for storm victims.
Price said that for the group's trip in May, 35,000 pounds of donated materials were loaded into an 18-wheeler April 28. Some Mission of Love volunteers flew to Jean Lafitte, while others drove with tools and supplies. They began building the Fishers' new home May 1.
Price said people are still trying to recover from the devastation and seemingly "forgotten by our government."
Help needed
Volunteers and donations of money or construction materials for the group's July trip to Jean Lafitte are being accepted. Price said the cost of building materials in the New Orleans area, if they can even be found, is double or sometimes triple what they would cost here.
People who want to volunteer or make a donation can call Price at (330) 793-2388 or (330) 720-0278.
