AUSTINTOWN -- The Austintown 20/20 Committee has released a new community directory of local organizations and associations. The directory is meant for community leaders and organizers in and around Austintown. It is limited to noncommercial or nonprofit groups. The directory is free and available at the Austintown Library or township offices. Organizations that want to be in the directory can complete a form on the committee's Web site at www.Austintown2020.org, or they can submit the form found in the directory.
Garage destroyed
CAMPBELL -- A large storage and garage structure at Blackburn and Jackson streets was destroyed by fire. Firefighters responded at 7:15 p.m. Saturday to the blaze at the 22-unit storage building. Firefighters had no damage estimate, but noted that the building was uninsured. Coitsville and Struthers fire departments assisted Campbell firefighters. There were no injuries reported
Catholic response
YOUNGSTOWN -- Monsignor Robert J. Siffrin, administrator of the Diocese of Youngstown, announced that the diocese will collect funds to help Catholic Relief Services respond to the recent earthquake in Indonesia. CRS is part of a $1.2 million Catholic response and is working with international agencies. The 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck May 27 and killed 5,136 people, injured nearly 6,504 and left 100,000 homeless. Seniors and medicine
BROOKFIELD -- The Brookfield Branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 7032 Grove St., will be the site of a Brown Bag at Brookfield program on seniors and medication. From 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, a pharmacist will present a program on medications, such as doses, side effects and drug interactions. The program is free and no reservations are required. Donate old shoes
AUSTINTOWN - Mahoning Valley residents are being asked to donate to Shoes for Orphan Souls, a non-profit organization based in Dallas, Texas, that is hosting a shoe collection from June 15 to Aug. 4. It is accepting shoes, socks and shoelaces for orphan children in more than 30 different countries. New shoes are preferred, but slightly worn might be accepted. Winter boots and warm shoes, sizes three to nine, are needed the most. Donors can include inside the shoes a family picture and a note to the shoe recipient. Suicide prevention
YOUNGSTOWN -- Help Hotline Crisis Center has been designated a "surge center" for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. As a surge center, Help Hotline will provide national back-up when call volume exceeds the capacity of the national network, said Duane Piccirilli, Help Hotline executive director. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24-hour, toll-free suicide prevention service. Individuals can call (800) 273-8255 for help and they will be routed to the closest provider of mental health and suicide prevention services, Piccirilli said. Residents of Mahoning and Columbiana counties can receive help by calling Help Hotline at (330) 747-2696
