STRUTHERS -- Struthers Board of Education is seeking a new high school head football coach before the July start of football practice after hiring coach Pete Pirone Jr. as elementary principal.
The board said Pirone, who has also been an elementary physical education teacher, will continue to supervise summer conditioning for the football team until a new coach is named.
Pirone was one of several people involved in personnel moves approved by the board at a special meeting Friday. The board did not have salary information available for any of them.
The board also voted to talk with Struthers Education Association members about reducing the work load of administrators by changing the athletic director position from an administrative duty to a bargaining unit position.
New position
Members also voted to create an administrative position, assistant principal for the elementary and middle schools. They then named Matt Bowen, who has been a middle school special education teacher, to that position.
Board members said they intend to hire Vince Colaluca as middle school principal when the position becomes vacant before the start of the 2006-07 school year. They could not officially hire Colaluca until the post is vacant, but said they wanted the public to know their intentions.
Colaluca has divided his time between the positions of curriculum director and middle school principal. The board previously eliminated the position of curriculum director.
The board hired two Struthers High School alumnae, both new to the district. Sara Mashburn Tringhese will teach first grade, and Angela Galito-Russo will teach choral music on a half-time basis.
