ROTC COMMISSIONS | From the Valley
Three area residents recently were commissioned second lieutenants in the military through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Youngstown State University and the Air Force ROTC at Ohio State University.
The YSU Army ROTC graduates are:
Ashley M. Jenkins, bachelor of science degree in forensic science. Jenkins, the daughter of Eileen Hall and Kenneth Jenkins, both of Kensington, is a 2002 graduate of Carrollton High School. While in the ROTC, she served as battalion commander during the school year 2005-2006. Her honors include the George C. Marshall Award, the Superior Cadet Award, and the Distinguished Military Graduate designation. She will report to active duty on Wednesday to support the Leadership Assessment and Development Course at Fort Lewis, Wash. She also is scheduled to attend Phase II of the Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Benning, Ga., and the Military Police Officer's Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. After training, Jenkins will be assigned to an active Army unit in Korea.
Tanner M. Dunlap, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. Dunlap, a 2001 graduate of Zanesville High School, is the son of Teresa and John Dunlap of Zanesville. While in ROTC, he has served as the battalion supply officer during the school year 2005-2006. He was a four-year varsity letter winner for the YSU football team. Honors received during his college career include the American Society of Military Engineers Medal and the first team All Gateway Conference Academic Award. He also has served in the Ohio Army National Guard, and will report for active duty to attend Phase II of the Basic Officer Leadership Course and the Engineer Officer's Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Ga., at a later date. After officer's basic training, he will return to the area and assigned to an Ohio Army National Guard unit while pursuing a civilian engineering career.
The OSU Air Force ROTC graduate is:
Robert T. Chance Jr., summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree. Chance, the son of Robert T. Sr. and Doreen Chance of Poland, graduated in 2002 from Poland High School. He served as a wing commander of ROTC Detachment 645. At the annual awards ceremony, he received the American Legion ROTC Scholastic Achievements Award and the Alumni Association Scholastic Award. As a recipient of the Marshall-Arnold Award, Chance attended a seminar in Washington, D.C. He has been assigned to Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., where he will undergo pilot training.
