YOUNGSTOWN -- Pig Iron Literary and Art Works Inc. will host its 2006 Community Street Festival on July 29 in downtown Youngstown.
The daylong festival will run from 10 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. and on North Phelps Street between Commerce and Federal streets.
The festival will showcase performance talent citywide, and will include nine hours of music, entertainment and poetry. There will also be a talent show for youth and amateur performers.
The festival will also feature an artists bazaar with original art and crafts for display and sale. Exhibit spaces for artists and concessions are available. Registration deadline is June 24.
The talent show will be judged by a panel of three judges and will consist of four-minute presentations. This talent show will emphasize youth performers, but there is no age-limit for participants. Pre-registration is required and the deadline is July 1. Registration for vendors and talent show participants may be done by phone. For registration and questions, please call (330) 747-6932.
Art fest seeks helpers
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Summer Festival of the Arts, scheduled for July 8 and 9 at Youngstown State University, is seeking volunteers for artist registration, information booths, the children's hands-on art tent, and technical assistance at performance sites and at the Festival of Nations international area.
Various shifts are available for the two-day event. Each volunteer receives a festival T-shirt, cold water and reserved free parking.

'Spamalot' tickets
PITTSBURGH -- Single tickets for the Tony Award-winning musical "Monty Python's Spamalot," will go on sale Monday.
"Spamalot" will run for a three-week engagement Sept. 12 through Oct. 1 at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts.
"Spamalot" is the winner of three 2005 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Director (Mike Nichols), as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical. The original cast recording of "Spamalot" recently won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
Tickets are $29.50 to $73 and go on sale at the box office at Theater Square, downtown, at 7 a.m. After 9 a.m., tickets may also be purchased online at www.pgharts.org or by calling (412) 456-6666.
'Detectives' in Canton
KENT -- America's favorite supersleuths are back for a fourth season on "History Detectives," with the first episode featuring a segment about Canton landmarks. The show will air at 9 p.m. June 19 and will repeat at 4 a.m. June 20 on PBS 45/49.
One of the co-hosts, Wes Cowan, visits Canton's Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, which was the site of President William McKinley's funeral; the McKinley Presidential Library and Museum; the Stark County Library; and the grounds of the McKinley National Memorial. His task is to help Shawn Kennedy, of Battle Ground, Wash., find out if his great-grandfather was a bodyguard for President McKinley.
Poetry reading
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pig Iron Literary and Art Works will hold its Second Tuesday Open Poetry Reading at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Precinct Delicatessen, 32 N. Phelps St.
The public is invited to attend the reading and to participate by reading poems of their own authorship, if so inclined. There is no admission charge to attend or participate. An open microphone is provided, and there are no age or experience restrictions. Presenters sign in at the door, the order of reading is random, and participants are allowed seven minutes to recite. Each presenter invites the next reader. Sign-up is at the door from 7 to 7:45 p.m. The program usually concludes around 9:30 p.m.
The Old Precinct restaurant will offer its full menu the evening of the poetry reading, beginning at 6 p.m. For more information call (330) 747-6932.
Piano workshop at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Dana School of Music will present the Youngstown State University summer piano workshop June 18-25 in Bliss Hall.
The weeklong events will begin with a recital performance by workshop host Michael Schneider at 7 p.m. June 18 in Bliss Recital Hall.
