INDIANS Bullpen blows it vs. Sox (again)

Chicago ended Bob Wickman's streak of 24 straight saves in the 11th inning.
CHICAGO (AP) -- It's just June, a little early for celebrations. But the way the Chicago White Sox came tearing out of their dugout Saturday, it was apparent they were plenty excited over their latest victory.
Tadahito Iguchi hit a game-winning single off Cleveland Indians closer Bob Wickman past diving first baseman Ben Broussard as the White Sox rallied for two runs in the 11th and a 4-3 victory Saturday.
"When I first hit it, I thought it was going to be picked up, but halfway through trying to run my hardest I saw it had gone through," Iguchi said through a translator.
"I wanted to get my first major league walk-off hit and it was good it came at this time," Iguchi added. "This team never gives up. We know how to play baseball and we know how to play baseball to win."
Couldn't close it
The Indians took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 11th when Victor Martinez hit his second homer of the game.
In came Wickman (1-1), who was 8-for-8 this season and had the majors' longest current streak with 24 straight saves dating to last season. He couldn't close it out.
"I'll say one thing, I wasn't fooling anyone," Wickman said. "They put some pretty good at-bats on me and I didn't get the job done. We got the lead with Vic's home run and I came out there and blew it."
A.J. Pierzynski singled leading off the bottom of the 11th, moved up on Scott Podsednik's sacrifice and scored on Rob Mackowiak's tying RBI single to right.
Mackowiak went to second on the throw and then tried to score on Pablo Ozuna's RBI single to right. But Indians right fielder Casey Blake made a strong throw as Martinez blocked the plate with his left leg and Mackowiak was cut down for the second out.
Iguchi then delivered his single and Ozuna, who had moved to second on the play at the plate, scored easily as the White Sox raced from the dugout to celebrate.
"When he hit it, Broussard is pretty good over there so at first I thought he had a chance," Pierzynski said. "Once we saw it go through, we knew we had the game. It was big because we were down a couple of times and kept finding a way to come back. ... That's the way we won a lot of games last year."
Agustin Montero (1-0) got one out for his first major league win.
Not enough
Martinez's ninth homer of the season was a solo shot to left with one out in the 11th off Matt Thornton. Martinez also homered in the sixth and had an RBI single in the first to drive in all the Indians' runs.
Martinez thought the Indians were on the way to a win after his second homer.
"That's what I had in my mind -- go out there and close the game and get the win," Martinez said. "Unfortunately, we didn't."
The White Sox tied the score in the eighth on a pinch-hit single by Podsednik off Fernando Cabrera with two outs.
Martinez's first homer and RBI single came off Chicago starter Mark Buehrle, who allowed six hits and two runs in eight-plus innings.
C.C. Sabathia, who allowed four hits in six innings and left with a 2-1 lead, got out of a none-out, bases-loaded jam in the sixth with just one run scoring on Paul Konerko's double-play grounder.
Sabathia and Buehrle, two of the AL's top left-handers, met for the eighth time in their careers and fourth time this season. Sabathia has a 5-0 record against Buehrle, including 2-0 in 2006.
Buehrle threw 29 pitches in the first inning, finally striking out Jhonny Peralta with the bases loaded after the Indians had scored on Martinez's RBI single. Martinez's grounder between shortstop and third came after Buehrle walked Jason Michaels and hit Travis Hafner with a pitch.
