On Tuesday, the Ultimate Drive for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will be held at Preston Auto Mall, 3843 Youngstown Warren Road. The foundation is celebrating 10 years of BMW's involvement in the event. The Ultimate Drive is a national breast health outreach campaign where participants test drive a new, specially decorated BMW over a set course through Warren, Howland and Niles. For every mile driven, BMW of North America donates $1 to the Komen Foundation.
The foundation is honoring Melissa LaMonica Lamonna of Boardman (formerly of Niles) as a local "Hero in the Fight Against Breast Cancer."

Disc cleaning
EAST PALESTINE -- The proceeds of cookbook sales by the Friends of the Library allowed the purchas of a RTI DiscChek machine for cleaning CDs and DVDs.
On Wednesday mornings, members of the Friends will clean scratched or dirty discs as well as VHS tapes that belong to the public. Discs and tapes will be cleaned on the following Wednesday. They can be picked up on Thursday or Friday during library hours. The cost is three for $2 or $1 each.
The Friends are holding a used cell phone drive. Drop off your unwanted cell phones to the library, or the East Palestine Sky Bank or Home Savings and Loan offices.
Yoga and journal writing
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Villa Maria Retreat Center will offer a retreat June 25-July 2, which integrates the practices of yoga and journal writing.
Presenters for will be Carol Williams and Judy Cannato. Williams is a yoga therapist, a certified Kripalu teacher and an integrative yoga therapy teacher. She holds a master's degree in psychology with an emphasis on yoga from Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, Calif. Cannato is the author of "Quantum Grace: Lenten Reflections on Creation," "Connectedness, Quantum Grace: The Sunday Readings" and "Radical Amazement."
The cost is $325 per person for the session and includes meals and overnight accommodations. Registration is required by contacting Cindy Wilpula at Villa, (724) 964-8920 Ext. 3241. Participants should bring a yoga mat, pillow, small blanket, journal and art supplies.
Drum circle
ALLIANCE -- The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center of Mount Union College will hold a Drum Circle on Saturday, June 17 at 2 p.m.
Every third Saturday of the month, Greg Rice and company will be drumming and helping us learn how to drum. Its great fun and anyone can do it.

Meditation seminar
YOUNGSTOWN -- A free, two-day basic mediation training seminar is offered Thursday and June 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at D & amp;E Counseling Center's Camp Challenge, 939 Wilkinson Ave. Attendance is required both days. Sixteen social work and counseling continuing education units are offered.
The purpose of the seminar is to help professionals, such as guidance counselors, administrators, psychologists and social workers, understand conflicts; the goals, principles, standards and stages of mediation; how mediation can be useful in a school environment; and to learn and practice the skills in facilitating the mediation process.
The seminar is sponsored by D & amp;E, Mahoning County Family & amp; Children First Council, Mahoning County Educational Service Center, Mahoning Valley Dispute Resolution Services, and Help Hotline Crisis Center. Registration is required. Call (330) 744-4244.

Baby-sitters

Water testing
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Department of Health Bathing Beach Monitoring Program has adopted a simpler method of testing water at beaches for elevated bacteria levels.
If E. coli bacteria levels exceed 235 colony forming units (cfu) per 100 milliliters of beach water tested, the ODH recommends posting signs to inform beachgoers that conditions may make it unsafe to swim, officials said.
Since 1986, the ODH has used a five-sample system to evaluate E. coli levels in beach water. The new testing is based on the single most recent sample collected.
Charity event
LORDSTOWN -- Proceeds from the General Motors Lordstown Complex's 40th anniversary Car & amp; Bike Show on July 1 at the east parking area off Hallock-Young Road will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. A wish will be granted at the show.
Awards will be given to the top 25 entrants. The deadline for pre-registration of vehicles and bikes, for which the fee is $8, is June 23. The registration fee the day of the show is $10.
The show features food, prizes, auctions, karaoke, concept cars, Grand-Am Cup Cobalt racers, United Autoworkers-GM Motorsports Trailer, the Tiger Woods Golf Display Trailer, and music by Music-2-Go.

Students honored
ALLIANCE -- Three area high school seniors received 2006 Dr. James Thomas Auxiliary Scholarships at a luncheon hosted by the Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary.
The recipients are: Carl Barrick, Minerva High School; Jessica Russo, Alliance High School, and Amber Paprzycki, Sebring High School. Barrick plans to attend either Heidelberg College or Ohio University. Russo and Papryzycki will attend Ohio State University.
The Dr. James Thomas Scholarship Auxiliary Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students who upon graduation from high school will be furthering their education in the medical field. Dr. Thomas was an anesthesiologist at Alliance Community Hospital.
Sharing services
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City Medical Center has joined the Pennsylvania Mountains Healthcare Alliance, Robert C. Jackson Jr., chief executive officer of the Grove City Medical Center, said.
PMHA, with headquarters in DuBois, Pa., is an association of 13 regional, independent hospitals that work together to strengthen their financial positions via shared services, while maintaining their status as independent community hospitals, Jackson said.
CPR classes
BOARDMAN -- Mahoning Chapter American Red Cross is offering four hours of training in Adult CPR at American Red Cross, 8392 Tod Ave. This course is open to the public.
The classes are offered from 6 to 10 p.m. June 13, 21 and 29 and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 29. There will also be a special weekday morning class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 14. The course fee is $30 per participant, which includes a training manual. Participants will have to perform skill tests as well as take a written exam to become certified. Coloring contest
The Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and Capital Area Humane Society are sponsoring a coloring contest for children on the topic of "Ohio Kids Love Animals." Deadline for entry is July 17.
Ohio kids can select an animal coloring entry form to download and print on the OVMA's Web site at www.ohiovma.org. Each winner will receive: a stuffed animal related to their chosen entry; the winning entry framed; Crayola's 120 ct. Color Force Colossal Box of Crayons (5-7 & amp; 8-10 age categories); Crayola Color Wonder Learning Book-Baby Animals (under 5 age category).
