Man accused of raping child
The defendant could get five consecutive life terms.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a North Jackson man after he was indicted by the Mahoning County grand jury on five counts of raping a young boy.
Indicted was Earl E. Johns Jr., 36, of Thomas Drive, whose case was presented directly to the grand jury. The case is assigned to Judge Maureen Cronin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Johns faces a mandatory life sentence without parole if convicted on any of the five counts because the victim is under the age of 10, said Dawn P. Krueger, assistant county prosecutor.
The charges allege that Johns forced the victim, whom he knew, to submit to oral sex in Johns' trailer residence, Krueger said.
