YOUNGSTOWN -- Second-team All-Ohio midfielder Mariah Snyder of Ursuline High School has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Youngstown State soccer program.
Coach Anthony James says the Penguins' five-member 2006 class has been ranked third in the Horizon League according to the website Soccerbuzz.com.
Snyder was a two-sport athlete for the Irish, playing soccer and basketball. On the pitch, she was a second-team Division II All-Ohio selection and a four-time all-Steel Valley Conference pick, and was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Region II (Central) team.
"Mariah will bring a much-needed toughness and mental edge to our program that will certainly assist us as we grow to become a mentally-tougher team," James said. "
The other recruits are forwards Jodi Bowlen (Austintown Fitch) and Jordan Gapczynski (Wexford, Pa.), defender Kate Bonn (Bethel Park, Pa.) and goalkeeper Caitlin Bodzioney (Avon Lake).

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Cardinal Mooney Camp of Champions for boys grades 4-9 will be June 26-27 at Mooney High School.
Coaches on hand for the event will be Ohio State's Jim Tressel, University of Arizona's Mark Stoops, Youngstown State's Jon Heacock, Louisiana State's Bo Pelini, Bowling Green's D.J. Durkin, Kent State's Pete Rekstis and the University of Kansas' Tim Beck.

Siler picksBaldwin-Wallace
BEREA -- Rachael Siler, a 6-foot-1 post player for the Mineral Ridge High girls basketball team and a four-year letterwinner, will play basketball at Baldwin-Wallace College.
She will major in education.
The daughter of Brian and Valerie Siler, she was Mineral Ridge's leading rebounder all four years and also led the Rams in field goal percentage for three seasons and blocks for two years. She was all-district and all-ICL. She also played volleyball and track.
YBA to honorMays, Kern
YOUNGSTOWN -- George Mays and Kevin Kern are slated for recognition as 2006 director-of-the-year and secretary-of-the-year, respectively, when the Youngstown Bowling Association holds its annual banquet on Sunday.
Mays and Kern were selected by the YBA, which earlier announced its choice of William D. DeCicco, Robert C. Eisenbraun and Ray "Cookie" Vens as inductees into the hall of fame. Also to be honored at the ITAM Centre on Meridian Rd. are sponsors-of-the-year Paul Matula, William Streb and Drew Chorba.
Blaney to raceat Pocono
LONG POND, Pa. -- Dave Blaney will be using chassis No. 83 in the Bill Davis Racing-owned No. 22 Caterpillar car in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.
Qualifying for the 200-lap (500 miles) event is Friday.
In the Neighborhood Excellence 400 at Dover, Del. last weekend, Blaney's 30th-place finish added to his streak of races without a did-not-finish. Blaney has been running at the end of 31 consecutive races, the longest current streak in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. The streak began at Pocono last season.
He remains in second in laps completed this season (4,420 out of 4,450).
Also, Blaney will make his 213th career NEXTEL Cup Series start when the green flag waves Sundayat the 2.5-mile Long Pond facility.
