NEW YORK -- Katie Douglas scored 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter, and Taj McWilliams-Franklin added 16 points as the first-place Connecticut Sun cruised. Nykesha Sales had 11 points and Margo Dydek added 10 points to help Connecticut (5-1) win its third straight and beat New York for the second time this season. Kelly Schumacher scored 14 points, rookie Sherill Baker had 13 and Cathrine Kraayeveld 10 for the last-place Liberty (1-5). Douglas made a free throw and a 3-pointer in the first 1 1/2 minutes of the fourth quarter to stretch the Sun's lead to 56-44, and they led by double digits the rest of the way. Douglas, who had only four points in the first half, was 3-for-5 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line after the break.
Fever 83, Mystics 70
INDIANAPOLIS -- Tamika Catchings returned to the lineup and scored a season-high 26 points to lead Indiana. Tully Bevilaqua scored 15 points and Ebony Hoffman added 12 to help the Fever end Washington's three-game winning streak. Alana Beard led the Mystics with 18 points, but was only 6-for-16 from the field. Nikki Teasley and Nakia Sanford scored 12 points each for Washington. Catchings had missed Indiana's previous two games with a sprained arch in her right foot, but showed no signs of pain as she grabbed 11 rebounds. The Fever are 5-0 when she plays and 0-2 when she sits. The Fever entered the game leading the WNBA in scoring defense while the Mystics came in as the league's highest-scoring team. Indiana played the up-tempo style more effectively than the Mystics while holding Washington 17 points below its average. The Fever outrebounded the Mystics 35-27 overall and held them to 36 percent shooting in the second half. Tamika Whitmore, Indiana's leading scorer, was held to eight points, but she led the Fever with five assists. Washington was 4-for-5 from behind the arc in the first quarter, but Indiana shot 56 percent from the floor to take a 25-22 lead at the end of the period. Catchings scored eight points in the second quarter to help the Fever take a 45-38 lead at the break. That lead increased to 66-54 after three quarters. Washington missed all five of its 3-pointers after the fast start.
