On the agenda
The conference schedule:
9 to 10 a.m., introduction and film followed by workshops.
10 to 11 a.m., a newly formed local group, Loved Ones of Prisoners, will address issues related to Ohio's death row, which recently was moved to the Ohio State Penitentiary here.
11 a.m. to noon, panel discussion on the topics of incarceration, health and human rights from 11 to noon.
Noon to 1:30 p.m., lunch break.
1:30 to 3 p.m., a Summit Academy teacher and a former prisoner will moderate a panel on "Getting In, Getting Out and Alternatives to Prison."
3 to 4 p.m., "Plenary: 10 Years after Lucasville." In 1993, prisoners rioted at the maximum-security prison in Lucasville. Over 11 days, nine prisoners and one hostage were killed. Niles-based lawyer Staughton Lynd argues that the five men sentenced to death for the killings, four of whom are on death row in Youngstown, were unfairly convicted.
