Parks worker accused of theft
YOUNGSTOWN -- A seasonal city employee has been arrested on a charge of theft in office, accused of using a city telephone to run up a $425 phone bill, allegedly to a dating service.
Parole agents picked up James Bowers, 25, who gave addresses on both Delaware and Hudson avenues, Tuesday. He is in Mahoning County jail pending arraignment.
City Prosecutor Jay Macejko said Bowers was on probation after his conviction last September in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on three counts of attempted child endangering.
Bowers worked in the city's Parks and Recreation Department at Pemberton Park on the city's South Side and is accused of using a park telephone to make the calls.
Macejko said that, if convicted, Bowers faces six to 12 months in prison, a fine of up to $2,500, permanent disqualification from any public employment in Ohio and forfeiture of any pension benefits.
