Developing this discipline pays lifelong dividends

Scripps Howard News Service: High schools regularly battle a perennial form of in-school absenteeism -- students who ask to be excused from class to use the bathroom and then wander the halls or simply take their sweet time about returning.
A new incentive in this battle, at least in the national capital area, reports The Washington Post, is rewarding students who can get through the school year without taking any bathroom breaks during class or only a set minimum of breaks with extra credits. One student cited in the story was able to raise his Advanced Placement history grade from a C-plus to a B thanks to his stoicism.
But, says the Post, "critics say it is unfair to give anyone an academic advantage based on something as unacademic as bathroom habits." Unfair? Perhaps. Unimportant? No.
Algebra II will get you through your SATs and your college math requirement, but bladder discipline will get you through life.
