Red Sox 8, Tigers 3
DETROIT -- David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez homered and Boston had three bases-loaded walks. Ortiz walked three times for the Red Sox, who also got homers from Alex Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis. Tigers manager Jim Leyland also was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Detroit has lost six of eight. Matt Clement (5-4) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings to get the win.
Orioles 11, Yankees 4
BALTIMORE -- Javy Lopez hit two of Baltimore's four home runs and Rodrigo Lopez won his third straight start as the Orioles avoided a three-game sweep. Javy Lopez led off the second inning with a homer and hit a three-run drive in the fifth to make it 10-0. It was his 22nd career multi-homer game. Kevin Millar and rookie Brandon Fahey homered in a five-run third.
Athletics 5, Twins 1
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Rich Harden struck out six in his first start back from the disabled list, and light-hitting Marco Scutaro got three hits for Oakland. Dan Johnson homered for the A's, who took three of four from Minnesota. Harden allowed one run in four innings. Carlos Silva (2-7) yielded nine hits and four runs in five innings for Minnesota.
Rangers 10, White Sox 2
CHICAGO -- Gerald Laird homered twice and drove in a career-high four runs for Texas, and Mark Teixeria had four hits and four RBIs. John Rheinecker (2-0) pitched eight innings, giving up seven hits and two runs. Joe Crede hit a two-run homer in the second inning for Chicago. Mark Buehrle (6-4) suffered his second straight loss and his first at home, allowing six runs and nine hits in seven innings.
Devil Rays 10, Blue Jays 5
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Doug Waechter won for the first time since August and Damon Hollins hit a three-run homer for Tampa Bay. Waechter (1-4) gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings, winning for the first time since Aug. 27. He had gone 0-8 with seven no-decisions during that span. The Devil Rays hit three homers off Gustavo Chacin (6-2) during their five-run fifth to take a 6-4 lead.
Royals 9, Mariners 4
SEATTLE -- Reggie Sanders drove in a season-high three runs and Kansas City snapped a nine-game losing streak at Safeco Field. John Buck hit a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the fourth inning and Emil Brown hit a solo drive in the second.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cardinals 9, Cubs 6
ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis had plenty of offense in its first game without Albert Pujols. Pujols, who is batting .308 with 25 homers and 65 RBIs, was put on the 15-day disabled list before the game with a pulled muscle on his right side. Jim Edmonds was 3-for-3 with an RBI double in the fifth and a run-scoring single in the sixth. Scott Rolen had two hits and three RBIs. Juan Encarnacion had a pair of RBI doubles to help the Cardinals salvage the finale of a three-game series.
Giants 7, Mets 6, 12 innings
NEW YORK -- Pedro Feliz hit an RBI single in the 12th inning for San Francisco. New York's Lastings Milledge hit his first career homer off closer Armando Benitez to tie it at 6 in the 10th. The 21-year-old rookie also hit a go-ahead double and made a sliding catch in right field. David Wright hit two homers, including a tying shot in the eighth for the Mets.
Diamondbacks 9, Braves 3
ATLANTA -- Tony Clark homered twice, Damion Easley added a three-run drive as Arizona completed its first four-game sweep in Atlanta. Easley's ninth-inning homer was his fourth in the last two games. Clark, who began the day hitting .164, was 4-for-5 to lift his average to .208. Jeff DaVanon led off the game with a homer and added a two-run single in the second inning as Arizona took an early 4-0 lead against Jorge Sosa (1-7).
Nationals 8, Brewers 4
MILWAUKEE -- Alfonso Soriano hit a grand slam and a solo homer to lead Washington. Soriano went 3-for-4 to overcome a pair of bad plays. He made a baserunning error in the first and grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the fourth.
Marlins 4, Rockies 3
DENVER -- Rookie right-hander Scott Olsen pitched six innings to help Florida complete a three-game sweep. The only Colorado hitter to solve Olsen (4-3) was Matt Holliday, who singled twice and knocked a fastball out of the stadium on one bounce in the fourth. But Holliday was thrown out at the plate in the seventh in the key play of the game.
Reds 6, Astros 4, 11 innings
HOUSTON -- Ryan Freel hit his second homer of the game in the 11th inning to help Cincinnati complete a three-game sweep. Freel's two-out, two-run homer off Russ Springer completed the first multi-homer game of his career. Todd Coffey (3-0) allowed two hits and one run in the 10th inning for Cincinnati, which swept a series in Houston for the first time since June 1999.
Phillies 6, Dodgers 4
LOS ANGELES -- Chase Utley homered and then doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to help Philadelphia salvage a split of the four-game series. Joe Beimel (2-1) took the loss after Jimmy Rollins and Utley greeted him with doubles to open the Phillies' three-run eighth. Geoff Geary (3-0) got one out for the victory. Tom Gordon pitched the ninth for his 17th save in 18 chances despite giving up a solo homer to Martin.
