Dinner, picnic planned to mark Cappitte 75th
XBOARDMAN -- The 75th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. James Cappitte, 4076 Baymar Drive, will be celebrated during two events, a dinner and a picnic.
On June 6, the couple will be honored by their children during a dinner party to be held at Scarsella's Restaurant in Youngstown.
The following Sunday, they will be the guests of honor at a picnic for family and friends to be held at the home of a grandson and his wife, Christopher and Annette Helms in Austintown.
The couple's children and their spouses are James Jr. and Joyce Cappitte, Norman and Sandy Cappitte and Joseph Cappitte, all of Youngstown; Marian Cappitte, Theresa Arnold and Elaine and Jamie Herras, all of Austintown; Donald and Nancy Cappitte of Boardman; and Barbara and Chuck Colantone of Canfield.
Completing the family circle are 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Cappitte and the former Charlotte Williams, who is also known as Sally, met on a streetcar that was heading to a dance at Idora Park and were married six months later on June 6, 1931, at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown.
Mr. Cappitte, a painter, retired from the Youngstown Street Department in 1977. Afterward the couple operated the "Mom and Pops" stand at the Pyatt Street Market from 1985 to 2000.
