'The View' plans a sendoff for departing Vieira
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Don't put the tissues away just yet. There might be more tears to come in TV land.
Katie Couric said farewell to "Today" last week. On Friday, it's Meredith Vieira's turn to say goodbye to her gig on "The View."
Vieira will replace Couric alongside Matt Lauer on NBC's "Today" show in September.
Before that, though, "The View" has to give Vieira the proper sendoff.
Starting Wednesday, "The View" will begin airing segments highlighting Vieira's memorable moments.
But don't expect a complete weepfest.
"'The View is an irreverent show, and we won't be changing that for Meredith's final day. No warm and fuzzy sendoff [until the final moments, anyway]. We plan to roast her like a Cornish hen," said executive producer Bill Geddie. "Knowing Meredith, she wouldn't want it any other way."
That said, there will be videotaped farewells from the cast and crew of the view, including co-hosts Barbara Walters, Star Jones Reynolds, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
Also on deck will be a look at Vieira's three children -- Ben, Gabe and Lily -- who will share personal stories about their famed mother. And, as Geddie said, expect a celebrity roast element to the festivities.
The big, final bash will occur live on Friday's show.
