Speed causes 1-car accident on Route 422
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police are saying excessive speed on a wet, slippery surface resulted in a one-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on U.S. Route 422 bypass in Union Township that sent two people to area hospitals.
State police said Timothy J. Masone of Mount Jackson Road in New Castle, was traveling west on Route 422 at 1:25 p.m. and was going too fast for the wet conditions.
He lost control of his vehicle, which went off the road and struck a guardrail. Masone was treated for minor injuries at Jameson Hospital, but his passenger Corey Cloud of Edinburg Road, New Castle, was taken by a STAT medevac helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. The nursing supervisor at St. E's said Cloud was in surgery Saturday night.
State police said Masone and Cloud, whose ages were not available, were not wearing seat belts. Assisting in the cleanup were Union Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Noga Ambulance service.
