Registrations being accepted for science research competition
ISELIN, N.J. -- The Siemens Competition in Math, Science & amp; Technology, a science research competition for high school students, has begun accepting online registrations for the 2006-07 program.
Information can be found on the Siemens Foundation Web site, www.siemens-foundation.org and www.collegeboard.com/siemens.
More than $700,000 is awarded each year with college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 for students. Every regional finalist automatically wins $2,000 per project for his or her high school.
The Siemens Competition is a signature program of the Siemens Foundation, which distributes nearly $2 million annually to promote math and science education in the United States. The competition is administered by the College Board.
Students may enter as individuals or as members of a team. Students who are not able to complete registration online may call (800) 626-9795, Ext. 5849 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST for assistance. The deadline for entries is Oct. 2.
Entries are judged at the regional level in November at six leading research universities: Carnegie Mellon University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Notre Dame and The University of Texas at Austin.
The national finals will take place in December at New York University in New York City, judged by a panel of scientists and mathematicians.
Last year, 1,684 students submitted original research projects.
