Class B roundup
*Mike Meintel allowed just four hits over the first six innings as Livi Steel won for the fifth time in five starts, 7-3 over Wharmby Sports.
Meintel (1-1) allowed three runs and had five strikeouts, while Shane Liska came on in the seventh to pick up a save.
Josh Swipas had three hits while Chester Kirkwood, Marc Rossi, Tone Pozega, and Liska had two hits each for Livi.
John Thomas (0-2) allowed five earned runs in five innings and added two hits for Wharmby (3-2).
*Andy Richey scored the game-winning run on an error in the top of the eighth inning as Dave Sugar Excavating defeated Newell Sporting Goods, 2-1.
Andrew Sarich had three hits for Sugar (3-2). Craig Clemson picked up the win in relief, while Ed Gonda got the last out of the game for a save.
Bill Nelson went the distance in a losing performance, allowing one earned run. He had six strikeouts as Newell lost for the fifth straight time this season.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Renee Rambo and Chris Morrison rolled 1413 to win the 43rd annual Youngstown Mixed Doubles Tournament at West Side Lanes.
Taralyn Graham and Nick Gabrick finished runner-up with 1394, followed by Tracie Robison and Jason Baglama with 1384.
Tied for fourth were the teams of Sonya Wills-Samuel Carissimi and Donna Kincaid-Carl Hurd, both with 1381.
Fifty-four of the 265 couples who entered will cash in the tournament's $3,120 prize fund.

*NEWPORT, Wales -- Robert Karlsson shot a 4-under 65 in the third round of the Wales Open to extend his lead to six strokes.
College baseball
*CLEMSON, S.C. -- Right-hander Sean Clark's first work in the NCAA tournament and Stan Widmann's first home run of the season gave Clemson a 3-0 victory over North Carolina Asheville.
Clark shut down the Bulldogs on three hits over eight innings and Widmann had a two-run blast in the second for the Tigers.
*LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Shaun Lehmann homered and Greg Dombrowski (10-2) pitched a complete game as Kentucky eliminated Notre Dame.
It was the first tournament win in 18 years for Kentucky (43-16), the regional's top seed. The Wildcats still must string together wins today against Ball State and College of Charleston to advance to Monday's title game.
Big East champion Notre Dame (45-17-1), seeded third, lost to Charleston in 16 innings Friday to end up in the elimination game. Tom Thornton (7-3) took the loss.
NCAA softball
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Katie Burkhart threw a two-hitter, and Arizona State eliminated Oregon State from the Women's College World Series with a 3-1 win on Saturday.
In another elimination game, Pac-10 player of the year Andrea Duran hit a triple and a solo home run to lead UCLA over Alabama 4-1.
Arizona State provided Burkhart with all the runs she would need in the third inning on a solo home run by Heidi Knabe. Another run scored on a throwing error by Oregon State (43-16).
Arizona State added an insurance run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Rhiannon Baca.
Burkhart (30-7) struck out 12 and allowed only a homer by losing pitcher Brianne McGowan -- McGowan's second of the series -- leading off the fifth, and a single in the same inning to Deann Young.
McGowan (29-9) allowed four hits while striking out four and walking five.
Duran tripled for UCLA in the first inning and hit her 14th homer of the season in the third. She scored in the first on Krista Colburn's RBI single.
Tara Henry's single in the sixth inning accounted for the other UCLA runs.
UCLA's Angelica Selden (34-6) limited Alabama (54-11) to six hits. She fanned five and walked three.
Alabama's only run came on Dominique Accetturo's two-out home run in the second inning. It was her fifth homer of the year.
Steph VanBrakle (28-6) was the loser for the Crimson Tide and threw two innings, allowing three hits and three runs. Chrissy Owens replaced her in the second inning and threw five innings, allowing one run. She fanned one and walked one.
Defar sets worldrecord in 5,000
NEW YORK -- Meseret Defar of Ethiopia set the world record in women's 5,000 meters in 14 minutes, 24.53 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix on Saturday.
Defar easily outpaced the field to break the mark of 14:24.68, set by Turkey's Elvan Abeylegesse in 2004. Workitu Ayanu of Ethiopia was second in 14:50.51.
Defar won Olympic gold in Athens in the 5,000 and finished second at the world championships last year.
Arena football
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Matt D'Orazio threw six touchdown passes -- five to Bobby Sippio -- to help the Chicago Rush advance to the ArenaBowl with a 59-56 victory over the San Jose SaberCats in the American Conference title game.
In the ArenaBowl next Sunday in Las Vegas, the Rush will face the winner of today's National Conference championship game between Orlando and Dallas.
D'Orazio was 21-of-36 for 219 yards, and Sippio finished with seven catches for 78 yards. Mark Grieb was 28-of-36 for 314 yards and five touchdowns for the SaberCats, and Marquis Floyd had 10 catches for 116 yards and a TD.
