Golf event to support Burns' scholarships
Tom Burns was a very special man. He was president of the Mercer County Hall of Fame, an educator, coach, sports broadcaster and above all, a great father.
Outside of his family, Tom's greatest loves were the young athletes of Mercer County. He did everything is his power to help in their success.
Keeping in mind the ambitions of Burns, the Mercer County Hall of Fame instituted the Tom Burns Memorial Award following his death. The annual presentation is awarded to a boy and a girl from each of the 13 high schools in Mercer County. It is a scholarship awarded for academic and athletic excellence.
The Mercer County Hall of Fame sponsors a golf scramble in an effort to help with the funding of the award.
