Safe Sitter is a program that teaches 11- through 13-year-olds how to be safe, nurturing baby sitters. The goal of the program, developed by a pediatrician after a colleague's child choked to death while in the care of an adult sitter, is to reduce the number of avoidable or unintentional deaths among children who are in the care of baby sitters.
To successfully complete the program, students must pass a practical and written test to show they have mastered the key concepts and that they have the skills necessary to handle an emergency.
To register for the June 28 session, call the Womancare Center at (724) 347-7700 , or toll-free at (866) 347-7700 . Space is limited. Registration forms and permission slips will be mailed to parents.
