Eastlake man in jail after claims of animal cruelty

EASTLAKE, Ohio (AP) -- A man has been charged with animal cruelty after police found kittens cut in two and frozen to death.
William Whitlow, 22, of Eastlake, was charged with burglary and tampering with evidence, both felonies, and two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.
"It's just sick," said police Lt. Bill Gutowski. "It's hard to describe, to believe someone would do that to little kittens."
Police found one dead kitten soaked with water and left in a freezer and another crushed and cut in two, its pieces found in separate rooms.
Three other kittens survived after being thrown against the wall.
Whitlow is accused of hurting the animals after breaking into a home he was supposed to move into next month.
It still was occupied by the current tenants.
Whitlow, who remained jailed on $15,000 bond, said he was drunk and "doesn't really know what he did," Gutowski said.
Eastlake is about 20 miles northeast of Cleveland.
