COLUMBUS -- Greg Cornish pitched a complete game shutout and Derek Goins' RBI single in the seventh inning gave Tipp City Bethel a 1-0 win over Windham in a Division IV baseball state semifinal Friday.
The game was scoreless after six innings. Sam Bernard led off the top of the seventh for the Bees and reached first base on an error. He moved to second on a sacrifice, and after a pop up by Kevin Williams scored on Goins' single.
Brent Fincham pitched a complete game for Windham (13-9). He struck out eight, walked six and allowed three hits and one unearned run. Kyle Cooper went 2-for-3 for the Bombers.
Cornish scattered six hits and struck out eight.
The Bees (23-5) will play Newark Catholic (29-4) in the state championship Sunday.
Newark Cath. 4, Kalida 2
COLUMBUS -- Michael Taylor struck out 16 and pitched a complete game to lead Newark Catholic over Kalida.
Taylor, who gave up two runs on seven hits, also doubled in the first inning and scored on an RBI single by Tyler Moore, giving the Greenwave (29-4) an early 1-0 lead.
Matt Lott's single in the third inning off Kalida starter Ross Guisinger scored two, making it 3-0.
The Wildcats (20-8) responded in the bottom of the third, getting RBI doubles from Brandon Recker and Guisinger.
Newark Catholic added another run in the sixth on an RBI single by Mark Elwell.
Guisinger pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and three runs.
Softball
ASHLAND -- Jessica Carmichael went 2-for-3 and pitched a complete game to lead Dalton to an 8-3 win over Convoy Crestview in a Div. IV state semifinal.
Dalton (22-5) scored six times in the fifth inning -- including a single by Megan Tope that drove in two -- to take a 7-1 lead.
The Knights (31-1) responded with two runs in the sixth. Jamie Perkins had an RBI double and later scoring on a wild pitch.
Perkins (20-1) pitched six innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits, and Crestview committed five errors in the game.
Carmichael (13-2) struck out 10 and gave up three runs on five hits.
N. Lewisburg Triad 5,Crestline 4, 8 innings
ASHLAND -- Ashley Crowder's RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth inning gave North Lewisburg Triad the win.
Crowder's triple scored Sally Coleman, who singled with one out in the inning. The Cardinals (28-5) won despite committing five errors.
Crestline (24-6) tied the game 4-4 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Stacie Kelly. Emily Hatfield went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Meghan Ronk (21-6) pitched 7 2/3 innings for Crestline, giving up 11 hits and five runs.
Morgan Ryan (14-2) pitched eight innings for the Cardinals, allowing eight hits and two runs.
