The Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer's office has lifted its boil alert for the county's water customers in Brookfield, Liberty, Hubbard and Vienna townships. The alert was a result of a main line break Wednesday in Brookfield.
7 children OK after fire
YOUNGSTOWN -- An apartment at 268 Dupont St., owned by Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, sustained an estimated $10,000 worth of damage, and $2,000 worth of contents were damaged in a fire Thursday. The cause is being investigated. A neighbor called to report the blaze at 10:30 a.m. In the apartment, a woman was baby sitting her seven grandchildren, ranging in age from 2 to 9 years old. A 6-year-old and 2-year-old were in the room where the fire started, but they were not injured.
Sexual assault at bar
LIBERTY -- A female dancer at the Lampost Lounge on Belmont Avenue told police a man sexually assaulted her in the bar late Thursday. The 22-year-old Youngstown woman said she was dancing for the man when he exposed himself, pulled her to him and tried to remove her underpants. Reports say the man touched the woman's genitals. The dancer, reports said, pushed the man away and screamed for help. The man ran out of the bar and left in an older blue Cadillac.
Lincoln Elementary tour
WARREN -- Warren City Schools will offer a second public walk-through of Lincoln Elementary from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. The public is invited to tour the school, share stories, reminisce and enjoy light refreshments. Lincoln pupils will be relocated to Devon Elementary for the 2006-07 school year. Lincoln Elementary, erected in 1956, will be demolished this summer as part of an Ohio School Facilities Commission project, which will allow for the construction of four kindergarten-through-eighth-grade buildings and a high school.
Fire damages mobile home
HOWLAND -- The owner of a mobile home is receiving assistance from the Red Cross after it was heavily damaged by fire. Authorities said the fire at the home of Gail Stewart at 2075 Weir Road caused $6,000 worth of damage. The blaze was caused by a gas leak near the stove.
Burglary, arson probed
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City police are investigating a burglary and arson at a Sumner Avenue home. According to police, a neighbor noticed smoke at 201 Sumner Avenue just before 10 a.m. Thursday and called firefighters and the homeowner, Eugene Firmi, 34, who was at work. Police said after the flames were extinguished they learned that a door to the home had been forced open and the inside ransacked. Fires were started in the living room and a bedroom, they said.
Careers workshop set
WARREN -- Trumbull County One-Stop and the Northeast Ohio HealthForce will host a Health Careers Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday. The free workshop will be held at the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority building on U.S. Route 422. The workshops are held quarterly to answer questions about job openings, and to give attendees an opportunity to learn more about employment opportunities before they begin a training program. Participants will learn about the fields of health care with the highest demand, career paths, local schools that provide training, and sources of funding available for training programs. Passenger-tire disposal
GIRARD -- The city health department is collecting unwanted passenger tires for disposal. The tires can be taken to the city garage at 943 S. State St. between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Those hoping to dispose of tires need a disposal coupon from the city. Coupons can be picked up from the health department between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with photo identification and a utility bill showing a current Girard address. Those with more than four tires or any questions can call the health department at (330) 545-6048.
Water main flushings
STRUTHERS -- Aqua Ohio Inc. will be flushing water mains here Monday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Communications/HR Coordinator Allison Gatta suggests that customers limit their use of water during those hours. Fire hydrants will be open, allowing water pressure to forcefully remove nonharmful sediment from the water mains. Water customers may experience temporary discoloration of water and a decrease in water pressure during those hours. Albert J. Sauline, Aqua vice president and division manager, said that customers can run cold water for several minutes until it clears.
