June 23: Deadline for General Motors Corp. and Delphi Corp. workers to accept early retirement or buyout offers from the companies. So far, nearly 30,000 workers from GM and Delphi have accepted the packages.
Jan. 1, 2007: Workers who take the package will quit working by Jan. 1, depending upon when the companies can afford to lose their services. GM and Delphi plan to hire temporary workers to help ease the transition to a smaller work force.
