BALTIMORE -- Johnny Damon homered off Chris Ray leading off the 10th inning, and the short-handed New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 Saturday for their seventh win in eight games.
Andy Phillips also homered and Bernie Williams had three RBIs for the Yankees, who were without their two leading home-run hitters, Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi, both of whom were out with a stomach virus.
In addition, Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui are on the disabled list, and closer Mariano Rivera has a sore back that will probably keep him sidelined through the weekend.
But New York still had enough talent to beat the Orioles for the 13th time in 15 games, dating to last July.
The Yankees wasted a fine performance by Randy Johnson, who allowed only three hits -- one after the first inning -- before being lifted in the eighth with New York up 5-3.
Scott Proctor came in after Johnson walked Brian Roberts with one out. The reliever retired Melvin Mora, but Miguel Tejada followed with an RBI double and Ramon Hernandez tied it with a double to left-center.
The 42-year-old Johnson struck out eight and walked three.
Damon hit a 1-1 pitch from Ray (1-2) over the center-field wall, handing the Orioles' closer his second loss in two games.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Eric Chavez hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly to center in the seventh inning and also drove in Oakland's first run.
Chavez's first-inning RBI single stood until the seventh, when Minnesota No. 9 hitter Jason Kubel hit a run-scoring single to right off Kiko Calero to tie it.
The A's then loaded the bases in the bottom half against Brad Radke (4-7), whose winless stretch reached four starts since beating the Chicago White Sox on May 13. Radke has lost his last three decisions.
Oakland's Brad Halsey (2-2) returned to the bullpen after filling in as a starter and got two outs for the win. Closer Huston Street worked two innings for his ninth save in 12 chances.
