WNBA ROUNDUP Thursday's games
Sun 89, Sting 65
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Nykesha Sales scored 18 points and Margo Dydek had 16 points and tied a team record with 15 rebounds to lead Connecticut over Charlotte. Katie Douglas added 13 points for the Sun (3-1), who shot 51 percent and held a 44-26 rebounding advantage. Rookie LaToya Bond scored 14 points and Tammy Sutton-Brown added 13 points for the Sting (1-3), who lost to Connecticut for the sixth straight time. Taj McWilliams-Franklin had eight points and eight rebounds for the Sun despite playing with a splint to protect an injured right pinky finger. Dydek's 15 rebounds matched McWilliams-Franklin's franchise record, set in 1999 against Cleveland.
Shock 64, Liberty 63
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Swin Cash scored 20 points and Deanna Nolan hit the winning layup with 1.4 seconds remaining as Detroit edged New York. Cash had her highest point total since a serious knee injury in September 2004, added 12 rebounds and helped the Shock (3-1) avoid losing to the WNBA's worst team. Detroit's Cheryl Ford added 13 points and 13 rebounds, including a third-try putback that left her sprawled and in pain with 25.6 seconds remaining. The preliminary diagnosis was a severely sprained left ankle. That set the stage for Nolan, who was held scoreless in the first half. On a designed play off a sideline in bounds pass, she used a screen from Ruth Riley to get wide open for the final basket.
