Television channel broadcast as a class

The channel includes a community bulletin board.
CANFIELD -- Public access Channel 19 is up and running now from Canfield High School.
The channel, provided through Armstrong Cable, began broadcasting Friday, said Don George, who oversees it. George is director of media services at the high school.
George said the channel will now be an extension of the high school's TV studio productions class, with students able to produce real programs for the community.
The channel is called Canfield Schools Cable TV, he said. Not all township homes can get the channel yet. Homes east of state Route 11 and the turnpike will still get Boardman's Channel 19, but Armstrong is working on the problem, George said. He said it could take as long as a year before the problem is resolved.
George said the channel does not yet have equipment to broadcast school board, township or city council meetings, but representatives from the city, township and school board are invited to create programming if there are projects they want to publicize.
What's on
He said the channel is now airing programs on the choral spring concert, Prom Promenade and an art show, among others.
It also airs a community bulletin board. George said that he can also announce road closings or emergencies on the station by inserting a crawler along the bottom of the programming, which is on 24 hours and is computer-controlled.
The high school is accepting donations of old televisions for use as monitors and teleprompters. George said the TVs can be any size but should be tabletop rather than floor models. The TVs need to sit on a cart, he said. George said donors can drop the TVs off at the high school.
