'Prairie Home Companion' to premiere in area

BOARDMAN -- The local premiere of the movie "A Prairie Home Companion" will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Tinseltown theater, near Southern Park Mall.
WYSU-88.5 FM, the public radio station for the Mahoning and Shenango valleys, is offering tickets for this private, advance screening. Seats can be reserved with a donation to WYSU of $5 for members or $10 for nonmembers.
"A Prairie Home Companion" is director Robert Altman's comic backstage fable about a fictitious radio variety show on the verge of extinction in the age of corporate radio.
The film stars Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Kline, Lindsay Lohan, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson and Garrison Keillor, who writes and hosts the longtime popular National Public Radio show upon which the movie is based.
"A Prairie Home Companion" has aired on National Public Radio nationwide since 1974. It airs from 6-8 p.m. every Saturday on WYSU. Four million listeners hear it each week on 580 NPR stations.
