FBI investigating robbery at credit union
STRUTHERS -- The FBI is investigating a robbery at the Struthers Federal Credit Union, 965 Fifth St.
Struthers police said a black man carrying a gun took an undetermined amount of cash from the credit union around 3 p.m. Thursday. They described the man as about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with long black hair.
Police responded when a woman calling from a cell phone said she was in her car following a man who had just robbed the credit union. She said the man ran along the west side of the Fifth Street Plaza and when he saw he was being followed, ran into the China Garden Restaurant at 1010 Fifth Street. When he was seen again, he was still on foot in the area of the Dollar General Store at 297 Rita Drive, in the next block east of the Fifth Street Plaza.
Police directed pupils from Struthers Middle School and St. Nicholas School away from the search area. They did not find the man. Police and FBI are reviewing photos from the credit union's security system.
