Austintown woman pleads innocent in school musical instrument thefts

YOUNGSTOWN -- An Austintown woman has pleaded innocent to five counts of theft, all involving musical instruments taken from local schools, and applied for participation in drug court.
Adrienne R. Kurylak, 20, of Aspen Drive, was arraigned Wednesday before Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Maureen Cronin, who ordered her to be placed on electronically monitored house arrest pending the outcome of her application for the county drug court.
Charges are dismissed against defendants who successfully complete drug court, over which Common Pleas Judge John Durkin presides. If Kurylak isn't accepted for drug court, her case will be set for trial before Judge Cronin.
Co-defendant Amanda Devault, 19, of Timber Lane, Austintown, has been enrolled in the county drug court.
Police believe the instruments were taken from schools in Austintown, Canfield and Poland and sold in pawn shops.
Drug court is a diversion program for drug addicts charged with nonviolent drug-related felonies. Drug traffickers are not eligible.
Participants must not use alcohol or illegal drugs, must avoid criminal behavior, undergo counseling, appear weekly in court and submit to two random urine-drug tests a week.
