Youngstown woman charged in vandalism
GIRARD -- A Youngstown woman will answer to several charges after police say she attempted to steal items from a city convenience store then broke a window at the store trying to escape.
Alicia Adams, 35, Alameda Avenue, is charged with felony vandalism and misdemeanor petty theft and falsification.
According to police, Adams attempted to steal small items from the McQuaid store on State Street on Tuesday afternoon, but was caught by the store clerk. Police said the clerk locked Adams and two others with her in the store and called police.
Before police arrived, reports say, Adams broke out a window with a fire extinguisher and left with her two companions.
Police said the trio jumped into a car but were pulled over a short distance from the store, and Adams was taken into custody. The other two had nothing to do with the theft or breaking the window and were not arrested, police said.
According to police reports, Adams, once in custody, said she was pregnant and in need of medical attention. Police reports say she was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center but while there assaulted an ambulance driver and tried to escape.
Reports say Adams also gave officers various names and Social Security numbers during the arrest.
