MLS ROUNDUP Wednesday's game
United 5, Crew 1
WASHINGTON -- Jaime Moreno scored his 100th MLS goal, becoming the second player in league history to reach the milestone, and D.C. United increased their lead atop the Eastern Conference standings. Moreno hit the century mark with a penalty kick in the eighth minute, joining Real Salt Lake's Jason Kreis (103) as the league's only triple-digit scorers. United added an own goal off the foot of Ezra Hendrickson in the second half, and Joshua Gros, Alecko Eskandarian and Lucio Filomeno also scored as the East leaders extended their unbeaten streak to four games and moved eight points ahead of second-place Kansas City. Joseph Ngwenya scored in the first half for the Crew, who were forced to start a fifth-string goalkeeper because of injuries. With Jon Busch (torn knee ligament), Johnny Walker (back), Bill Gaudette (broken hand) and Andy Gruenebaum (broken hand) unavailable, coach Sigi Schmid started North Carolina State assistant coach Dan Popik, who joined the team Sunday as a special hardship roster exemption.
