Scrappers win two from Batavia, end six-game loss skid

Mahoning Valley shut out the Muckdogs twice by the same 2-0 score.
BATAVIA, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers snapped their six-game losing streak by sweeping a doubleheader from the Batavia Muckdogs Sunday afternoon at Dwyer Stadium.
The Scrappers (20-19) won both games by a 2-0 margin, combining outstanding pitching and timely hitting to jump back over the .500 mark in the New York-Penn League standings.
Rookies Mike Eisenberg and Josh Tomlin combined for 111/3 scoreless innings in their starting efforts as Eisenberg (1-0) went 51/3 in the opener and Tomlin (3-1) tossed six shutout innings in the nightcap.
The Scrappers scored all the runs they needed in the first inning of both games as Jared Goedert belted a home run in the opener and Matt McBride doubled home Goedert in the first inning of the nightcap.
Eisenberg allowed five hits and struck out four in the opener and Tomlin allowed just three hits and fanned four in the second game.
Closers Neil Wagner and Matt Myers both came on to record hitless saves for the Scrappers. Wagner earned his eighth save and Meyers his second.
The Scrappers scored their second run in the opener on a two-out RBI single by Jason Denham in the fifth inning, while in the second game Mahoning Valley added its second run in the seventh on a two-out RBI single by Cirillo Cumberbatch.
The Scrappers were outhit in the opener 6-5, while Zach Penprase had two of the six hits for Batavia. In the nightcap, Mahoning Valley outhit the Muckdogs 6-5.
