Newark tops Rondinelli in regional play



Newark now meets Livi Steel in the winners bracket final today.
STRUTHERS -- Rob Howell had two triples, a double and two RBIs and also tossed a complete game five-hitter with seven strikeouts for Newark, which defeated Rondinelli Tuxedo 4-1 on Sunday in the Babe Ruth 16-year-old regional tournament at Cene Park.
Newark will face Livi Steel in the winner's bracket final at 3 p.m. today. Pat Norris added three hits and Chase Houston had a single and a triple for the Moundbuilders.
Ross Revella tossed 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for Rondinelli, which won its first two games in the tournament and played a losers bracket game late Sunday night against Hammond, Ind.

Garrett Malloy had four hits and five RBIs and Garen Ream had three hits and three RBIs for Livi.
Bob Herberger had three hits and tossed three innings on the mound for the save.
Ross Trinch went the first four innings for the win, adding two hits. Chad Martin had four hits and Patrick Kaiser three for New Albany.

AMELIA, Ohio -- Jared Bartholomew had three hits, including a double, for Astro Falcons, which fell to the Midland Redskins 5-4 in the Connie Mack East Regional championship game on Saturday.
Cameron Konop and Drew Turocy each had two hits, while Tom Popadak struck out seven batters in seven innings. Bartholomew was chosen to play with Midland in the World Series in Farmington, N.M., next week.
Astro Falcons 9, Pennsylvania Players 0
Konop had four hits and four RBIs for Astro, while Popadak struck out six and did not give up a hit in three innings.
Corey Susany struck out seven in four innings of relief. Bartholomew added two hits, including a three-run homer.
Babe Ruth 14s
JASPER, Ind. -- The Youngstown Babe Ruth All-Stars defeated Kentucky 7-1 on Sunday.
Bo Slemons (five innings) and Jake Thomas (two innings) combined on a three-hitter for Youngstown, which had 12 hits on offense.
Youngstown will meet Wisconsin in the winners bracket final at 2 p.m. today.
The winner advances to the championship game of the double elimination tournament.
Babe Ruth 13s
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- On Saturday, Tim Cheslik went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Mark Leone had two hits and plated the two go-ahead runs in the top of the sixth inning for Youngstown, which defeated Eau Claire 6-4.
Adam Robb got the win.
Youngstown 11, Northwood (Wis.)
Sutton Whiting had two hits and scored three runs, while Reese Swatsworth had two doubles and two RBIs for Youngstown. Brock McGivern and Danny Popio each added three RBIs, while Ryan Gallagher got the win.
Illinois 1, Youngstown 0
In Friday's opener, Popio had two hits, including a double, and Whiting had a double.
Wisconsin scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Little League 11s
POLAND -- Danny Marker had a single and a double and Mitch Bolin added a solo homer for Howland, which defeated Shelby 7-2.
Howland, the District 2 champs, will play either Defiance or Englewood in a third-round game at 8 p.m. today.
Howland had a bye for the first round.
Ryan Fleming, John-Mark Weisman and Kyle Watson all had singles. Marker and Weisman combined on a six-hitter.
