AUCTIONS
UPMC Horizon Oncology Patient Care Fund will hold a Chinese auction Aug. 9 and 10 at its Greenville, Pa., campus cafeteria and Aug. 11 at the Shenango Valley campus cafeteria in Farrell, Pa. Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry will hold an art auction Saturday at the McDonough Museum on the campus of Youngstown State University. The 6:30 p.m. silent auction will be followed by a live auction at 7:30. Wine and beverages will be provided. The cost is $25, and tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling (330) 793-0434.
BENEFITS
VFW Mineral Ridge Post 4192 Auxiliary will sponsor a leukemia fund benefit for Matthew Baker from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the post pavilion, 3889 state Route 46, Mineral Ridge. The cost is $5, and the event will include refreshments, karaoke, live and Chinese auctions, a 50-50 raffle and entertainment.
DINNER-DANCES
Magnuson Foundation will hold a fundraising dinner and dance on Sept. 22 at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman. The menu will include prime rib, cavatelli and roast Italian chicken. Featured throughout the evening will be a silent and Chinese auctions. Proceeds will be used to perform random acts of kindness and to establish a Magnuson scholarship at Youngstown State University in the field of criminal justice. Tickets are $45 per person. PICNICS
Happy Hearts Picnic will begin at noon Sunday at Strossmayer Picnic Grounds, 4202 Smith Stewart Road, Vienna. Performances by the Happy Hearts Jr. Tamburitzans begin at 1 p.m. The cost is $3 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. There will be Croatian foods, music and dancing. Frozen apple strudel will be available for $7 each.
RAFFLES
Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, is participating in the "2006 Big Ticket Raffle," held annually as a fundraiser for Jewish Community Centers across the country. A maximum of 2,000 tickets will be sold nationally. The winner will select three prizes from a list of prizes that includes a 50-inch plasma HDTV, a $5,000 vacation, a Mediterranean cruise, cash, a shopping spree and admission to major sports events. The first runner-up will select one prize from the list, and 15 subsequent winners will receive a nonspecified electronic prize. Tickets are $100 each or three for $250. SALES
Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman, will hold a "No Trash, Just Treasure" sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; dollar-a-bag day starts at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Love's Deliverance Center, 2750 Gibson St., Youngstown, will have a rummage sale in its parking lot and in the church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. Books, household items, clothing, toys, glassware, etc., will be available.
North Jackson Citizens Association will hold a community-wide yard sale beginning at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday with 100 yards involved. Funds will support community events, schools and projects.
Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, 291 Scoville Drive, Vienna, will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (dollar a bag from 1 to 3 p.m.) Refreshments and baked goods will be available.
St. Joseph Church, 420 North St. N.W., Warren, will hold a sale of crystal, china, Tiffany lamps, furniture and many other items from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Refreshments will be available.
St. Mary Church, state Route 46, Mineral Ridge, will sponsor a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (buck-a-bag day) Also available will be baked goods and $1 lunch specials.
St. William Church, 5431 Mahoning Ave., Champion, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday ($1-a-bag day). Refreshments will be available.
Sebring Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a village-wide garage sale fro 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Bright yellow flowers will mark sale sites in Sebring and red, white and blue flowers will be markers at the adjoining Beloit sale sites. SPECIAL EVENTS
Mahoning County Salvation Army is seeking motorcycle riders for its first motorcycle run fundraiser Aug. 19. Registration will take place at 11 a.m., and the run will begin at 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown. The event will feature food, prizes, T-shirts, goodie bags and a live band. The cost is $10 for one rider and $5 for the second rider. Proceeds will benefit the Salvation Army's Youngstown program.
