Muckdogs' grand slam extends Scrappers' streak

Rain delayed Friday's game for almost two hours.
BATAVIA, N.Y. -- They waited almost two hours to start Friday's New York-Penn League game between the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Batavia Muckdogs.
It was worth the wait for Batavia, which got a grand slam by Charlie Yarbrough and a two-run shot by Jacob Dempsey, to hand Mahoning Valley its sixth straight loss, 9-4, at Dwyer Stadium.
The start of the game was delayed 1 hour, 57 minutes by rain.
The teams were scoreless through three innings, but the Muckdogs (16-18) scored five times in the fourth inning, highlighted by Yarbrough's third home run of the season. Dempsey also had an RBI single in the inning.
McBride hits slam
The Scrappers (18-19) came right back in the fifth, scoring all four of their runs on one swing of the bat.
Matthew McBride's grand slam made it 5-4, after Jason Denham singled, Adam Davis doubled and Jared Goedert walked.
McBride's homer, his third of the season, ended the night for Batavia starter Michael Dubee.
But John Brownell pitched 32/3 innings of scoreless relief for his first win of the season. Raymond Cruz finished the game with a perfect ninth.
Luis Valdez (5-2) allowed six runs -- five earned -- in 42/3 innings for Mahoning Valley.
