Man gets sentence to 21/2 years for injecting girl with heroin



MERCER, Pa. -- A Farrell man was sentenced to 21/2 to five years in prison in Mercer County Common Pleas Court for injecting a 17-year-old girl with heroin in 2004.
Judge Francis Fornelli sentenced Sloane Matthews, 31, of Fruit Avenue, to the term for corruption of minors, a misdemeanor.
Court documents state Matthews administered the drug to the girl, then to himself, at either a Hermitage or Farrell address in October 2004.
Several others also sentenced were:
Howard Hayes, 28, of Canal Street, Greenville, 12 to 18 months in prison for felony escape and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. Court documents state that on March 7, 2006, Hayes escaped the custody of a deputy sheriff while being taken out of UPMC Hospital in Greenville in a wheelchair for transport to the county jail. Hayes was being treated at the hospital for injuries received earlier that day when he broke a window and escaped through it to elude officers who were trying to serve him with a bench warrant at a South Mercer Street, Hempfield Township, address.
Kina Smith, 21, of Fifth Avenue, Sharon, 14 weeks to three years in prison for retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. Court documents state Smith stole $252 worth of clothes and jewelry from Fashion Bug, 3239 E. State St., Hermitage, on Dec. 4, 2005. When apprehended, she had a digital scale with a trace of drug residue.
