ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves made another trade to bulk up their bullpen Friday night, acquiring reliever Danys Baez and infielder Willy Aybar from the struggling Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Wilson Betemit.
Betemit has been the Braves' most valuable player off the bench, filling in at second, short and third when the starters were sidelined by injuries. The 26-year-old switch-hitter is batting .281 with nine homers and 29 RBIs.
Rangers-Brewers
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas acquired All-Star outfielder Carlos Lee from Milwaukee for reliever Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix.
The deal also included the exchange of minor leaguers.
Lee, who can become a free agent after this season, is hitting .286 with 28 home runs and 81 RBIs. He is a .284 career hitter over eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox (1999-2004) and Milwaukee (2005-06).
Cordero was the Rangers' closer until he set a major league record with five blown saves in April, and was replaced in that role by Akinori Otsuka.
Giants-Nationals
PITTSBURGH -- San Francisco acquired veteran left-handed reliever Mike Stanton from Washington for a minor league pitcher.
The Nationals will receive 19-year-old right-hander Shairon Martis, who was pitching at Class A Augusta. Martis threw a no-hitter for the Netherlands against Panama during the World Baseball Classic in March.
Stanton was 3-5 with a 4.47 ERA for the Nationals.
Phillies-Brewers
PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia traded third baseman David Bell to Milwaukee for a minor league pitcher.
Bell, who will be a free agent after this season, was hitting .278 with six home runs and 34 RBIs in 91 games. The Phillies got Class A right-hander Wilfrido Laureano. He was 3-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 29 relief appearances for West Virginia of the South Atlantic League.
