Jacob Neiheisel, son of Pat and James Neiheisel of Leetonia, has been selected as a Young Scholar. The program is designed to allow students to work on a one-to-one basis with a member of the faculty or independently with faculty supervision. He is a senior with a political science and philosophy double major. He is a 2003 graduate of United High School. Neiheisel's project is titled "Debating Homosexuality: Deliberative Discourse in the Congregational Context," and he will be advised by assistant professor Paul Djupe.

Paul Hutchison, son of Alan and Anne Hutchison of Poland and a 2002 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, has been initiated into the OSU chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and considered the most prestigious academic honor society in the United States. Hutchison is an English and history major.
