Car keeps fleeing till it crashes
A store reported $90 worth of cigarettes had been stolen.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Charges are pending against two men whose car was pursued through three counties, with the chase ending in Mill Creek Park.
The Ashtabula County prosecutor's office will decide what charges will be filed against Joshua S. Patterson, 22, of Orwell, and Jeremy A. Lovett, 22, of Bristolville, according to Orwell police.
The pursuit began around 2 a.m. Thursday when an Orwell village police officer saw a car speeding from a True North store on East Main Street. The officer attempted to stop the car, but it continued through an intersection and traveled south on state Route 45 from Ashtabula County into Trumbull County.
During the pursuit, the officer learned that a theft had occurred at the store. Police said $90 worth of cigarettes had been taken.
The Trumbull County 911 center was advised of the chase, and Champion police joined in.
The pursuit continued east on the state Route 5/82 bypass, then south on state Route 11. By then, the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department, Liberty police and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers had joined in.
Troopers set out Stop Sticks (tire deflation devices) on state Route 11. The suspects' car ran over the sticks but kept going with three deflated tires.
The car then entered Mahoning County and finally stopped when it struck a guardrail in Mill Creek Park in Youngstown, police said.
