Brooklyn completes sweep of Scrappers

Mahoning Valley has lost five straight games and scored just six runs in that span.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers' offensive woes continued Thursday night -- and so did their losing streak.
The Brooklyn Cyclones scored four times in the fourth inning and handed the Scrappers their fifth straight defeat, 4-0, in a game that was called after seven innings because of rain at KeySpan Park.
The victory completed a three-game sweep for the Cyclones (18-17).
Mahoning Valley (18-18) could manage just four hits off the Cyclones' starter and winner Tom Stoner, who pitched six plus innings and struckout seven Scrappers.
Scrappers starter William Delege (1-4) went the first five innings and allowed all five Brooklyn hits and all four runs. Derrick Loop came on to finish the game without allowing a hit in two innings.
The Cyclones did all their damage in the fourth, including and RBI double by Jeremy Hambrice and a two-run double by Jonathan Sanchez. Brooklyn had four of its five hits in the inning.
Mahoning Valley had two runners on base in the first inning, but Stoner then retired the next 12 Scrappers in a row.
The Scrappers threatened in the seventh when Dustin Realini doubled with one out and went to third on Evandy DeLeon's single. Josh Roberts walked to load the bases, but reliever Grady Hinchman came on to retire the final two batters to end the threat.
The Scrappers have scored just six runs in their five-game losing streak.
Mahoning Valley will travel to Batavia, N.Y. for a three-game series with the Muckdogs that begins at 7:05 tonight.
