NFL ROUNDUP \ News and notes

Steelers: Pittsburgh signed rookie safety Anthony Smith, the Hubbard native, to a three-year contract. Smith was a third-round draft pick from Syracuse and the Steelers' second selection. He blocked six kicks during his career at Syracuse. The Steelers have now signed six of their nine draft picks. Training camp starts Friday in Latrobe.
Bengals: Left tackle Levi Jones signed a six-year contract extension, leaving Cincinnati Bengals with two offensive linemen under long-term deals. The Bengals also got one of their draft picks signed. Receiver Bennie Brazell, a seventh-round pick from Louisiana State, agreed to a four-year deal. Middle linebacker Odell Thurman was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policies, the team said.
Chiefs: Kansas City agreed to a three-year contract with seventh-round draft pick Jarrad Page. A four-year starter at UCLA, Page had 249 career tackles and nine interceptions. He is projected as a safety with the Chiefs.
Rams: St. Louis agreed to terms with tight end Joe Klopfenstein and linebacker Jon Alston, one day before the start of training camp. Only first-round pick Tye Hill, a cornerback, has not signed, but coach Scott Linehan believes Hill will be in camp by the weekend. The Rams have nine of their 10 draftees under contract.
Panthers: Carolina agreed to terms on a four-year, $2.86 million contract with second-round draft pick Richard Marshall, a cornerback from Fresno State. That leaves the Panthers with two unsigned picks -- first-rounder DeAngelo Williams, a running back from Memphis who was taken 27th overall, and fourth-round pick Nate Salley from Ohio State.
Broncos: Denver signed three of its draft picks, including fourth-round pick Brandon Marshall. Also signed were defensive lineman Elvis Dumervil, a fourth-round pick, and center Greg Eslinger, who was taken in the sixth round.
Dolphins: Miami signed defensive tackle Frederick Evans, the first of its three seventh-round draft choices, to a four-year contract.
Vikings: Minnesota signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, one of its second-round draft picks, to a four-year contract. That left the Vikings with one player yet to agree to terms, linebacker Chad Greenway, their first-round selection from Iowa. Rookies and selected veterans are required to report to Mankato for training camp today.
Raiders: The Art Shell era has just begun and Jerry Porter is already having problems with his new coach. A day after publicly demanding a trade, Porter sat out practice with a calf injury. While other injured players such as Ronald Curry were on the field with their teammates for part of practice, Porter was nowhere to be seen during workouts. Porter declined to talk to reporters, but Shell said the trade request was a "non-issue" and the team is unlikely to grant his request.
Jets: D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold should be right on time when players report to training camp today. The two first-round draft picks were close to signing contracts Wednesday night, and expected to be at team headquarters in Hempstead on reporting day. The Jets start practice Friday under new coach Eric Mangini.
Packers: Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with guard/center Jason Spitz, a third-round draft pick from Louisville. The 6-foot-4, 313-pound lineman suffered a knee injury as a redshirt freshman, but recovered to start his last 38 games in college. He enters training camp No. 1 on the Packers' depth chart at right guard.
Buccaneers: Fourth-round draft pick Alan Zemaitis signed with Tampa Bay. The agreement with the rookie cornerback leaves the Bucs with four unsigned picks, including first-round selection Davin Joseph. The team reports to training camp today and begins practice Friday at Lake Buena Vista.
