Director of children services resigns

MERCER, Pa. -- The head of Mercer County Children and Youth Services has resigned to pursue her education, and a commissioner's assistant has taken another job.
Mercer County Commissioners plan to accept the resignation today of Mary Ann Daniels, C & amp;Y Services director, effective Aug. 4. Daniels said she has accepted a full scholarship to pursue a doctorate in child psychology at Gannon University.
Commissioners will advertise for a new director. In the meantime, the office will be run by assistant director Jason Hamilton.
Commissioners will also accept the resignation of Karen Anderson, who has been administrative assistant to Commissioner Brian Beader since his election 21/2 years ago. Anderson has accepted another job.
She will be replaced by Stephanie Zigo of Mercer, who will work part time and be paid $18,839 annually.
Beader said Zigo will work two six-hour days per week and he said he plans to bring in another part-timer to share the job with her. He said he is trying the new arrangement as a cost savings because part-timers do not receive benefits.
